This ambitious build at Millbrook, Central Otago is a 900 square metre luxury residence constructed alongside the Millbrook Golf Course. The home designed by Michael Wyatt of Queenstown’s Wyatt & Gray Architects, incorporates all the key elements of Central Otago. Creating warmth and texture with internal and external schist stone walls and timber.
The slate roof tiles are from Wales, the light fixtures from the UK, the wallpaper from France and the window and door joinery from Central Otago. Designed around the environment the focus is on bringing the outside in. Floor to ceiling windows and doors captures the views of the Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
A mix of bi-folds, French doors and sliding doors allows easy access to the different outdoor dining and entertainment areas. Extra-large doors were selected for the entry to capture views of the adjacent golf course and tawny-coloured hills beyond. Featuring casement windows and shutters from the Altherm range all the aluminium joinery was finished in matt black powdercoat. Due to the southern location, keeping the house warm in winter was a priority. This saw the use of double-glazed Low E Excel glazing, as well as Metro Series ThermalHEART.
