This Peninsula Bay home was designed by Craig McAuliffe from McAuliffe Stevens. This 330m2 home is defined by two distinct forms that separate the private sleeping quarters from the living spaces.
The timber-clad living wing extends out, tilting towards Lake Wanaka and cantilevered over a rock garden. The steel-clad sleeping quarters project towards Wanaka Township, while a third cantilevered box covers the outdoor dining and barbecue area behind the house.
The fully glazed entrance enables the views to be enjoyed from any of the three backyard entertaining areas, which simultaneously give shelter from the prevailing wind.
Stacking sliding doors in each room draw the outdoors into the living space. The window frames are in an irregular configuration on the front elevation in particular due to the pattern formed by the cladding ribs. Panoramic views from all the rooms mean that the windows frame the vistas.
