The $10 million development of The Collingwood Centre delivers a hub of healthcare practitioners to Nelson city. Designed by Arthouse Architects and built by Gibbons Construction this three story building took 12 months to complete.
Inspiration was taken from the pattern of DNA strands and the concept of one layer protecting the next. Orientation of double glazing, solar shading and structural elements has been developed to create a low energy use building that is cool in summer and warm in winter. Opening windows have been included where possible to give tenants the option of fresh air.
Privacy was a key consideration for the building vertical solar shading, sections of solid wall and timber battens have all been used to ensure privacy but not at the expense of light.
The stunning full height central atrium with glazed roof creates the ideal entrance and circulation hub.
