The Crown, Queenstown

Known as Building 10, The Crown Pub and Beer Garden, is a brand-new offer recently opened in the Five Mile precinct of Queenstown. Designed by Buchan Architects and built by award winning Master Builders, Andy Erskine. The Crown is a traditional pub environment, which links its name ‘The Crown’, back to the neighbouring Crown Range of Central Otago, in the scenery behind.

The Crown uses materials and special features which reflect a traditional cosy interior for those wintery days coupled with a refreshing summer beer garden experience, for when those long Otago summer afternoons pour sunlight into the courtyard. The pub is positioned to enjoy amazing views overlooking both The Remarkables and the Airport’s runways, long into the summer evenings. With an array of open and covered areas, The Crown is to be enjoyed throughout all seasons.

Design Windows Central Otago was engaged by local builder Andy Erskine to supply and install aluminium joinery. A combination of APL 100mm shopfront, including sliding windows and APL Architectural bifold doors in Matt Black with clear double glazing and APL stainless steel Icon hardware was chosen.

Attention to detail was integral to this project, the team took great care to install full height joinery with floor recessed doors eliminating trip hazards for patrons. Large bifold doors open to the beer garden fea-turing a large louvre roof which blurs the lines between indoors and out. Sliding and bi-fold windows out onto the outdoor areas opens the spaces right up.

Huge timber doors were integrated into dark aluminium framed windows and hung in the main entry. The warm timber entry door with brass handles connects the cosy traditional feeling throughout this fit out and links with the recycled brick features.

The Design Windows installation team worked hard to ensure this project was completed prior to a tight opening prior to Christmas 2021. This job was delayed due to the first lockdown creating a backlog of trades who all worked together in a tight space to ensure The Crown opened on time to welcome the Christmas crowd.

With the view of The Remarkables to the south this is a 5 star local pub.
