This stunning renovation was completed by Steve Mowat Building and Construction and designed by The Design Studio. With the basement floor being the only floor of three to remain, the renovated space gave the clients an opportunity to build an architectural, modern home which fits nicely into the picturesque bush surroundings. The windows and doors really do shine here and are perfectly positioned to make the most of these views.

Metro ThermalHeart Series joinery was chosen in Matt Black to contrast the cedar cladding, Low-E double glazing to maximise thermal performance – keeping the home warm in winter and cooler in the summer months. Automated blinds on the North facing windows also help with solar control in a space which is glass dominant. The upstairs bathroom has a classy privacy feature with the use of Switchable glass. At the flick of a switch the glass window becomes clear – revealing the beautiful outdoor views creating a really relaxing space to unwind. The use of sliding windows and doors on this build was genius to maximise space in the tight areas around the home. The integration of the cedar louvres gives a feature design, while also providing a cooling functionality. The installation of the larger windows proved a challenge for our team – having to work around scaffolding meant the whole job needed to be site glazed. The site also proved a challenge for Steve Mowat and his team – the garage was cantilevered out over the bush with a very steep bank below and the renovation itself having to remove most of the existing house to leave only the basement floor.

An eye-catching home both inside and out. The client’s choice of décor and furnishings inside the home are an interesting statement against the bold and modern finishes of the exterior home. It all comes together in such a contemporary way, with the windows and doors providing natural light throughout the home, maximum thermal efficiency, and efficient use of space in compact areas.
